Hosmed's national scale financial strength rating reflects the scheme’s adequate solvency and strong liquidity. Offsetting these is the limited membership base on the back of persistent membership losses over the review period, representing potential earnings risk, as well as high sectoral concentration.

Additional Information

Hosmed was established in 1988 in order to service local and provincial government employees. Today, Hosmed is an open scheme that has diversified its membership base to include individuals, municipalities and corporates. Thebe Ya Bophelo Healthcare Administrators (Pty) Ltd (“Thebe”) has been the scheme’s administrators from 2011 to 31 October 2017. Medscheme Holdings (Pty) Ltd (“Medscheme”) is the new scheme’s administrator, effective 1 November 2017.
