Laikipia is the 15th largest county in Kenya by size. According to the GCP 2019 Report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, Laikipia County was the 3rd fastest growing county in the country between 2014 and 2017. The main economic activities are agriculture (43.7%), construction (7%), wholesale and retail trade (8.8%), transport and storage (7.3%) financial and insurance activities (7.7%) and public administration and defense (7.4%). The GCP was KES81.1bn 2017 (at current prices) representing 1.1 % of the National GDP. The County has implemented a number of initiatives to strengthen its agricultural output and further diversify economic activity, which should support economic growth and continued improvements in social development indicators.
